Conference | Disinformation versus Culture
We are getting ready to the Year of Information Awareness and Security.
Disinformation is usually treated as a problem of feeds and algorithms. It is just as much a problem of memory: of what a society believes about its own history, language and heritage.
That is the starting point of Disinformation versus Culture: Białystok, on 18 November at Arsenal Gallery .It asks what cultural resilience means, when identity becomes a matter of national security, and how museums, media and public institutions can act together.
In September, our Cultural Guardians programme brought the same topic to a public debate at Humbolt Forum in Berlin. In Białystok it gets a full day, six weeks before 2027, which Poland’s Senate has declared the Year of Information Awareness and Security.
The keynote, From Kyiv and Narva to Białystok: Lessons and Actions, comes from Maria Smorževskihh-Smirnova, Director of the Narva Muuseum lastele seum in Estonia. She is joined by speakers from Ukraine’s parliament, Mystetskyi Arsenal in Kyiv, Franko House – Дім Франка in Lviv, Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art and Sweden’s Psychological Defence Agency.
